Applications nowadays are more complex than ever, and even simple applications can be made up of hundreds of microservices each with dozens of source code files. Finding where the problem is in a modern application, and how to fix it, can be really tough. Observability tools like Application Performance Monitoring (APM) can help. In this session, you’ll see how to use an APM tool to troubleshoot an application down to the faulty line of code, in moments, using flexible lightweight instrumentation based on the OpenTelemetry standard.

In this session you will learn:

-What APM is and why it’s needed for modern applications
-How to set up code profiling and the OpenTelemetry agent for a Java application
-How to find the cause of performance issues blindingly quickly
